MOVEMENT
AS
MEDICINE
TYW classes provide a safe and welcoming space where you can experience the healing and transformative power of yoga and somatics. Explore how movement, stillness, and breath shapes the way you meet obstacles—physically, mentally, emotionally. That’s the thing about movement. It’s never just about the “the doing.” It’s about “the being.”
It’s about how we show up: physically, mentally, emotionally. You may begin expecting to learn movement. But movement is just the doorway in to developing psychophysical capabilities like:
-
stability
-
flexibility
-
sensitivity
-
adaptability
-
endurance
-
discipline
-
balance
-
equanimity
-
acceptance
Practice not just for strength, but for awareness. That’s when movement becomes the medicine.
COMMUNITY CLASSES (donation-based)
Join us for monthly classes and outdoor special events to reconnect, socialize, and nurture yourself in nature. Check the events calendar for the latest in-person class offerings, location, and registration. Classes will always be safe, accessible and inclusive for everyone who shows up. Please bring water, a mat and any props you may need for practice.
Most events will be held at Chimborazzo Park in Church Hill, 3215 East Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23223. Please arrive 10 minutes early for easy off-street parking. Turn into the park loop from East Broad Street and walk into the park toward the view of the city, and you’ll find us under the white pavilion or nearby under the trees.
At TYW, we focus on developing a yoga practice for longevity, one that endures the phases of life and matures as your body ages. Individual lessons provide the perfect setting to address your specific needs and goals. We can work together privately or in a semi-private (2 people) format to establish a well-rounded practice and ways to integrate yoga into your daily life.
Regardless of level, age or stage of life, watch your practice grow, one breath at a time. If you would like to explore working together privately, please visit the privates tab for more details.

Our practice is our psychophysical lab – a lab of self-study (svadhyaya), a lab for working with and on, our entire being. It’s not important how the asana looks from the outside,
but how you feel it on the inside.
